Work sample Year 3 Science: Disappearing ice cubes

This work sample demonstrates evidence of student learning in relation to aspects of the achievement standards for Year 3 Science. The primary purpose for the work sample is to demonstrate the standard, so the focus is on what is evident in the sample not how it was created. The sample is an authentic representation of student work and may contain errors such as spelling mistakes and other inaccuracies. In this work sample students: • identify sources of heat energy and examples of heat transfer and explain changes in the temperature of objects • classify solids and liquids based on observable properties and describe how to cause a change of state • pose questions to explore patterns and relationships and make predictions based on observations • communicate ideas and findings for an identified purpose, including using scientific vocabulary when appropriate
